Will she help to care for my older child or children at home?

A confinement lady's main responsibilities are to care for the newborn and the recuperating mother. That would leave her little time to care for another child or other children. It is suggested that other children in the family are left in the care of other family members (e.g. the father, grandparents, etc) during the confinement period, in order to ensure that the mother has time to recover properly as the newborn adjusts to the new world.

  1. I have try to call auntie tai for my wife confinement assistance. Throught the phone find that she is quite calculative in term of money. I do not mind for paying extra money for taking care of my elders daughter. But auntie tai also mention she have less experience of taking care of child. So I am not quite sure whether she can take a good care of my elders daughter since she is so calculative.

  2. Hi Anonymous, perhaps Auntie Tai was trying to let you know that she would not be able to care for your elder child, as she would have her hands full taking care of the newborn baby and the recovering mother. I feel that it is reasonable if she asks for extra money to look after your elder child, as babysitting for another child is not in her original scope of work. However, if you are not comfortable with Auntie Tai over the phone, perhaps you may try to look for other confinement ladies to help you. At the end of the day, you must be comfortable with the confinement lady - after all, she will be living with you and your family for a whole month.
